On June 21st, the newly formed Fairtrade Pontypridd group launched at a community event which celebrated three important campaigns - Great Big Green Week, Refugee Week, and The Great Get Together. The event marked a new chapter for Pontypridd’s growing Fair Trade movement and invited everyone to learn and get involved.
Held in Mill Street Quarter, the day featured live music, workshops, plant and seed swaps, and a variety of hands-on activities. Fairtrade Pontypridd’s volunteers ran a stall offering homemade treats and refreshments using Fairtrade ingredients, from banana bread to chocolate rice crispy cakes – and of course, Fairtrade bananas, which are always a favourite!
Alongside were a range of information displays made by the group, including a cost breakdown comparing Fairtrade and non-Fairtrade products at the local Sainsbury’s in Pontypridd. Many attendees were surprised to learn how little extra it can cost to choose a fairer product. Others appreciated learning which local and chain businesses stock Fairtrade products, with some expressing interest in finding more Fairtrade items in shops such as Lidl.

Community events like this help turn awareness into action. They create space for honest conversation, local connection, and small but powerful steps towards a fairer world.
