Head of Fair Trade Wales (secondment cover)

Your Impact: 

🔹 Leadership and Strategy: Collaborate closely with our board to implement our current strategy and workplan, ensuring we stay true to our mission and drive positive change. 

🔹 Team Management: Manage and lead our team, contributing to project delivery and fostering a friendly and supportive environment. 

🔹 Partnership and Policy: Represent Fair Trade Wales in vital policy discussions and partnerships, advocating for further commitments to Fair Trade on a regional and global scale. 

🔹 Anniversary Celebrations: Play an essential role in celebrating Wales’ 15th anniversary, promoting the progress we’ve made together and our plans for the future

🔹 Shape the Role: Use your unique expertise to shape and adapt this role, allowing it to be a reflection of your values and passions.

Details

Term: Role until end of March 2024 (with likely further extension, subject to funding)

Salary: NJC scale PO1, £33,820 – £36,294 FTE

Hours: 21-37 hours a week part time or full time – 0.6-1 FTE considered

Location: Hybrid, Home or Cardiff office based

Flexible working: All flexible working requests considered

The role is to cover a 12 month secondment, with guaranteed position until March 2024, with likely extension (pending funding) for the remainder of the secondment. We’re a very flexible organisation, our priority is finding the right person. We are open to part and full time applicants, based anywhere, we genuinely want to discover a candidate who aligns with our values and vision. We would welcome secondments into the position.

The post is funded by the Welsh Government Wales and Africa team as part of a partnership grant to the Hub Cymru Africa partnership, which the post holder will hold close relationships with.

Fair Trade Wales is looking for several board members who can use their skills to guide our strategic direction, support employees and champion Fair Trade in Wales.

This role would suit passionate people committed to the values of Fair Trade, who are able to offer their time to support the strategic direction of Fair Trade Wales. If you care about justice and global equality, and want to support the growth of the Fair Trade movement, then this could be the role for you.

Fair Trade Wales works to support, grow and promote the Fair Trade movement in Wales. Our vision is to see an equal world, using our values of support, collaboration and empowerment. 

The board provides overall governance and strategic direction for the organisation which is managed on a day to day basis by a paid Head of Fair Trade Wales who, with the board’s guidance, prepares and delivers forward business plans. 

Being a Board member for Fair Trade Wales has given me the opportunity to get involved in international work that I would never have been able to get involved in with my job. Fair Trade Wales is established as a company, limited by guarantee with not for profit status. We work as part of the Hub Cymru Africa (HCA) partnership to maximise the effectiveness of organisations in the international sector and are based at the Temple of Peace in Cardiff. Hub Cymru Africa is currently funded by the Welsh Government’s Wales and Africa programme.

Details

Reports to: Chair of the board

Reward: This is an unpaid position but reasonable expenses consistent with practice in the voluntary sector are offered.

Location: Home based with online video meetings four-six times a year and one annual/biannual in person away day requiring travel.

Commitment: Flexible but attendance at board meetings is required together with response to email communications. Other representative duties at events or subcommittees may be required from time to time. Total time is unlikely to be more than one day per month.
